Back brake pads.

On the back brake pads on a 6, what are the wee wire things on the pads? What do they do? Do you need to put them back on when you change your pads?

All suggestions welcome as always!

you mean the retaining spring? Yes that is needed do not fit without and take note of which way they go most are fitted incorrectly.

They are not retaining springs, they are anti rattle springs, the little L shaped bar is the retainer.

They're anti rattle springs as above...let me know if you work out the magic behind how they actually stop rattling though! lol

Wires to the pad itself? prob pad wear circuit.

easy fit them properly...

its a spring, holds the pads under tension, stops rattling.

But it's only on the pad, if it was also held onto something immoveable like the carrier I could understand it, but it's just on the thing that's moving in the first place!? Maybe I'm overcomplicating this somehow...

Or you're fitting them wrong lol. They should be under tension once the retainer is in too.

I just fit them how they come off lol, or use the other side or a spare 306 for reference. The springs themselves are under tension, but only on the pad. Confused

Only the top of the loop is against the carrier, is that really all it needs? I have been overcomplicating this then, my bad. Tongue

theres a pretty good picture in the Haynes manual....shows how they fit........modified split pin ( shortened ) to hold slider plates in works well.....big red do new slider plates also...
