Project lemon revived

So as a few will know I bought Paul_13's 306 estate  off him.

Link to Paul's old thread for the car http://306oc.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?tid=27416

He told me everything that was / is wrong with it but at the price I paid I had nothing to loose , and I had just driven my daily through what was supposed to be a foot deep of water but turned out to be nearer middle of the windscreen height which promptly f***ed it of course.

How it looked when I bought it - shamelessly stolen from Paul's old thread

So issues with the car

It had smashed into another car head on - put on a new front end and rad
Cuts out - Paul gave me a new relay which sorted this
Battery was knackered - nicked one out of my 405 before it got scrapped
Power steering was leaking - 5 cap fulls of brake fluid in the PS tank solved this
Exhaust nearly fell off - new exhaust clamp

After this it ran sweet for a few thousand miles defiantly got my money worth from it

How the car sits now
[Image: IMG_20150407_191942737_HDR.jpg]

Engine bay - after being jetwashed multiple times still no cleaner
[Image: IMG_20150407_192026859.jpg]

Current issue`s are

Its cutting out a 2.5k revs at full throttle fpr has been replaced as has fuel filter and the lift pump has been cleaned - though something looks broken inside it.

Major boost leak - need to get underneath and look for it

Rear heated window doesn't work ,neither does the back wiper but not bother about this

Bumpers aren't same colour as the car

Loom is chopped up as before - going to replace entire loom at some point
[Image: IMG_20150407_192139165.jpg]

AC is f***ed and likely to never work again
[Image: IMG_20150407_192103581.jpg]

Overall its not a bad car for what I paid and I quite like it now so will slowly (very slowly) be repaired

Some random images

Boob

Can't remember what I was trying to fix

Before I sprayed the bonnet[Image: IMG_20150207_164517432.jpg]

Found a car with the same paint scheme

Probably just the wiring through to the boot or the earth isn't right.

I've taxed far worse than that Smile

I think the wiper motor may have given up. I thought it was the wiring but it wasn't.

Thanks Paul !

Will probably just replace the whole loom if I can find a decent one in scrapyard as you said in your last thread there was some Dodgy wiring to the injectors aswell.

Yeah its much more quality than my normal dailys actually just that its been named a lemon so I'm going to stick with it lol the cutting out really does annoy me though but this is like a new car compared to how my BMW or 405 were!

We'll get it plugged in to pp2000 some point soon. You know I'm pretty busy!

I think I may of taken that tape off that was around the injector wires and there was nothing wrong, but I might have got that confused with something else

So found some more problems with the loom today
[Image: IMG_20150410_153315180.jpg]

Anyone know what these were supposed to connect to ? I'm thinking each other ?

Insulated them with heatshrink so they wouldn't cause issues
[Image: IMG_20150410_154221674.jpg]

Then cable tied all the plugs that's were floating around to things so they wouldn't move about, think I'm going to replace the loom so I can rule it out as to why it cuts out

Thanks procta

So still trying to figure out why it cuts out.

Have found with the help of Paul_13 that if I unplug the maf sensor it doesn't cut out, but its slower and doesn't smoke anymore

I guess it doesn't cut out because with this unplugged its getting less fuel

For anyone who's interested still hasn't cut out with the MAF unplugged, I'm going to try a new sensor at some point. Clutch is slipping now though

Still unsure what to do with it as so far its not really even been able to handle stage 1+ power without cutting out, once I have a map sensor and put it on pp2k hopefully I'll figure out why.

Paul's original plan of putting a XUD in it is defiantly still a card on the table. But also thinking about other possibilites...

Things aren't looking good for this lately iv covered 20k miles since I bought it off Paul which I don't think is bad at all for the 50 quid I paid for it!

But now its stuck in limp mode suspected failed rail sensor and will only start with deoderant down the inlet and making some knocking noises, don't think these are too major don't sound internal and they come and go.

Weighing up the options with it now...

Get it code read, it might give you an idea.

It's probably a fuel issue, FPR/FPS/lift pump or something like that.

Plugged it into pp2k and it didn't reveal much and my code reader only brings up p190 which is rail sensor

FPR has been changed as has maf and lift pump , reading 400 bar at the injectors but the rail sensor is reading 150 less or something like, I'm sure Paul will be along in a minute to clear up what I mean by that .

It was measuring a constant - 158 bar pressure difference between measured and expected fuel rail pressure.
This value doesn't change when revved

We changed the FPR, Andy has changed the lift pump to a known working item.

We unplugged the rail sensor and it read the same, Andy was under the impression it would run with it unplugged

I'm guessing the HP pump has had it out the rail sensor is fudged

The fault that appeared was diesel pressure sensor fault

Thanks for clearing that up.

Just to add to that with the rail sensor unplugged it runs the same as if its plugged in. Ie still in limp mode

And i Only need to spray down the inlet when the car is hot, starts first time cold

Anyone know if the fault p190 is rail sensor ?

It's a generic fault code unfortunately, just a rough goes at what is wrong.

Definitely to do with diesel pressure

For anyone who's interested this car has now been stripped and scrapped. Its unfortunate because it was a really decent car (when it ran right) and had tonnes of character but it had to come to an end, with constant on the fly repairs and starting and cutting out issues it was starting to waste precious time that could be spent getting the project car going...

Sorry, it's saying fuel pressure sensor issue and you've changed a load of things that arent the fuel pressure sensor and are wondering why it still isn't working?

Try the f*cking FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR!!!!!!!!!!

Lol yeah bit late lol but that wasn't what killed it

The fuel sensor just put it in limp mode, the car car out and wouldn't restart leaving me stranded for the 4th or 5th time I code read it nothing unusual messed around for ages trying a variety of diffent things and in the end lost the rag with it tbh plus I need a car that I can depend on to start in the mornings and not let me down 100s of miles from home. It wasn't worth anything to sell as it be as written off and needed a VIC check so stripped and scrapped it.
