I've been offered a 6 speed box to go onto my xsi can anybody tell me if it's a straight swap apart from the reverse gear lift cable ?

Why would it alter your turning circle the steering is the same ?

The extra gear on the end will hit your tyre preventing you from full lock right

Directly fit, just a little bit right turning radius.
If you didn't have the reverse cable after 6 mt installed, The car can be temporary drive without the cable but just beware the shifting from 4th to 5th and when 5th to 6th, reverse can be selected by pull to the right side of 6th.

What if you put wheel spacers on the front would that solve the wheel lock issue ?

not really, as you'd mess up your steering angles and foul the wheelarches instead
need a part number? http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ and http://service.citroen.com/ will sort you out.
