URGENT: Throttle Cable
#1
Ok so I'm becoming increasingly worried about my throttle cable. Which was beginning to fray when I bought the '6 back in Nov 2010....

It's on it's last legs now, and I really want to get it sorted asap!

Is anyone going to Ace tonight who's done a cable before?

Should I be getting a full replacement (sleeve & cable) or just the cable?

Can anyone give me a hand to fix it at ace?!?!

Thanks in advance

Seriously, Ed, it's a 10 minute job to fit, not difficult at all...

Just buy the cable, get under the dash and you'll soon work out how it goes together... It's awkward to get the end on the top of the pedal, but it'll take you 30 seconds...

I've heard it's not that bad, but do you think I should just replace the cable itself, or the sleeve too?

If it's just the cable i've heard it is pretty easy...

Just replace it all, it cant be any harder than replacing the clutch cable. And it didn't take me long to do that

Someone needs to help remove it and then just point and laugh to provoke you into fitting the new one yourself Big Grin

As said, it can't be any harder than a clutch cable............

No, replace the entire item. Don't be a pikey.

It's easier to replace the entire thing, than just the cable.

Replace the whole thing..... Cant imagine why anyone would just replace the cable for the sake of a quid....The outer bit wears to / looses its lube, which makes them stiff / wear out..

Easy job to change, get on before it breaks, petrol wont go anywhere at idle like a diesel can Wink

2nd?! 4th with fuel screw in for 3.5krpm idle! drove from st austell to my house, 15 min drive, using the key as a throttle, get on.

Could do the same in a perv I guess by tieing the body wide open and using the key Wink You cant tell im a farmer can you Wink I once mtdi'ed a rover 200, and we couldnt be arsed to get a cable, so had a bit of baler twine across the engine bay, worked for 2k miles before it was sold...and yes, sold WITH the baler twine to a local farmer Wink

when i got a kit from camberley auto factors it was a "universal" cut to measure kit with a variety of ends for the pedal etc..

That was pretty easy to fit..
