Speedo not working after engine change (106)

Changed the engine in the 106 from a 1.1 to a 1.4xs but kept the 1.1 gearbox.

However the speedo now does not work. I am pretty sure i plugged it in fine and have not had the cluster out and all normal lights light up as should. No rev counter but the clock works ok. What are the chances of something coming loose while the gearbox was off? Do the driveshafts hold anything in place for the speedo i have missed?

tugged on the cable while the engine was out? the back of the clocks doesnt really hold the cable well and can pull the cable away from it enough to not work. sometimes all you can hear is like a clicking noise as the cable tries to connect
