XU10 thicker head gasket (see newbies too)
#1
As per my newbies thread earlier today, I need a 2mm head gasket for a race-tuned, all steel, 306 XSi 8v engine. I've been quoted £280 for two custom made Cometics by Pug1Off.

Anyone know a UK/European fabricator of quality head gaskets?

Anyone any experience of decompression plates which can be used with standard thickness gaskets to make up the difference?(http://www.ferriday.co.uk/decompression-plates/)

Cheers
Ephrem

2mm ?!

Cheaper to take some material off the pistons and use a standard £40 mls peugeot gasket!!

Yes indeed and I even have said gasket (306 GTi-6) to hand. Not sure if you can do it with accralite high compression pistons but happy days if you could. I'll run it by the engine builder, thnx

Asking for a thick head gasket sounds more like issue that needs addressing as any weak points will soon become apparent,
Just seen your other post,

So the engine builder has got you to buy high comp pistons...then wants you to get a ruddy great thick gasket to reduce the comp down?! Bit random
Wishes for more power...

Not original builder. He has inherited the engine and I've asked him to change it from a full-on high compression twin 48s race engine with narrow power band 6000-8000rpm to a more user-friendly injected engine. Reducing the cam will increase the compression even more and so she needs a thicker head gasket to compensate. That's as I understand it anyway

Also with a 2mm thicker head gasket, it'll throw your cam timing all over the place.
