Yep, you're exactly right, however to get over the problem requires going out more (this is essentially how CBT/counselling should've worked). At the time I was in the Vectra, only doing 47-50mpg and shit scared of springs snapping so I stopped going out unless I really had to.....biggest mistake I've made so far! It did work in the short term, saved money and was less anxious for a few days at a time...but much more so trying to go out after not going out for 3 days or so! That's just got progressively worse since to the point where I'm really having to force myself to go out.
Living where I do also can't go without a car unless I just don't go out...which isn't helpful. And I tried going on a bus last month, only made it 2 stops, did not end well and an experience I'm not going to repeat (I had already guessed what would happen, it went a lot worse than expected)!
