Congratulations on the car Matt, it's looking amazing.

For the rest of you guys on here, I'm the former owner of this money pit! I had the car from 07 to 13, I've tracked it and Ringed it, that's the reason I bought the thing. Escalating milage and bills caused me to part ways with it, I part exed it for a red R26 with MCR Specialist Cars in the end, it was a very emotional parting of ways but I'm so glad the car has landed with someone who can look after it during the next phase of it's life.

A friend and I were getting all nostalgic about our old cars and I thought I'd do a number plate search on Google. Fortunately this thread wasn't hard to find after that.

Retarded replies aside, here's an update in pictures. Make of it what you will! I was surprised the axle came off so easily, even the brake lines came undone without too much struggle! Cannot rate Triple QX maintenance spray highly enough for use as a penetrating oil. This was a massive moment for the rallye as i havent been able to put stands on the sills for well over a year which made the axle change impossible until the welding was completed. 







So here's what i'm left to deal with, its certainly no 10 min job









It does look alot worse than it actually is, Heres the result of a few mins with a wire brush attachment on the grinder.



Will do more tonight  the countdown to FCS is looming ever closer! Hopefully this makes it but i wont cut corners just to make a show.

After show season this year i would advise a winter strip down of the sideskirts, tank & beam off to treat any rust you find and treat it to a lick of paint under there! I have a good plan for mine but want to try it before i start advising people to follow suit.

Aha cheers for the vote of confidence chap! I doubt much if any has anything to do with how its been treated previously to my ownership

If anything its mostly due to me doing over 25k miles in under 12 months of ownership using it daily in every weather condition  my own worst enemy!

Just worked out the cost of me doing 15k in the HDI, ive averaged 49 since I bought it 2.5 year ago, so lets say 49, 15k/49 = 306g x 5.7 = 1744, HDI FTMFW Even doing 25k a year it would still only cost me 2.9k haha, I thought I spent a lot on my 306 in fuel!

It's best not to think about it. You're going to spend the money, you have no choice, just put some ear plugs in before you bury your head in the sand!

Haha fair enough Matt, in more simple terms you loved your Rallye that much you spent many moneys on it in fuel
£20 a day is a pretty scary amount aha, I use a tank anywhere between 1 and 2 weeks aha, except for Pugfest (that's a tank gone in a day getting there and back )

Good point! Cant really get cheaper motoring all things considered than a 306 HDI!
Theres nothing like the feeling when you fill up and see a full tank on the fuel guage... it nearly makes you forget you've just put £50-60 in

i worked out how much fuel i used as it was something like an eighth of the fuel tanker that delivers to the petrol station!

Most of the rust under the boot floor looks like it'll be fine with a clean up and a couple of coats of hammerite.

The roads are incredibly enticing and so easy to hold a good pace along! but its all twists, turns and varying gradient which means your constantly up & down the gearbox. Tom just google the B4357 you'll see what i mean

Yeah its mostly just deep surface rust so leave pitting but a good coat of hammerite & stonechip etc should see it looking fresh again

If i'm honest it was costing me an arm and a leg hence why i bought the diesel megane

So whats your process for cleaning this all up? brush down? treat? hammerite black? stonechip?

Wire brush cup on the grinder then seam seal over the weld and any structural bare metal, then stonechip the chassis rails and dirt traps then the entire underside and in the arches will be having a liberal motorsport spec coating of white just looks cleaner underneath and makes any leaks instantly stand out a mile.
