What's a fair price for a full cambelt kit including waterpump, coolant, labour etc on a gti6.

First quote i've got is is £355 incVAT.

TBH that is about the going rate. A Gates, SKF, Dayco or equivalent OEM kit is about £80-90 with a water pump. Then circa 3 hours labour on top with coolant added in. It adds up unfortunately.

jus outa curiosity are there top pully's in the kit? ... i spent in exess of "400" green queens on getting my belt and pump done ...
.. needless to say i waited patiently for a week till i could pay me bill ... 1 mile up the road , i felt confident enuf to put 40 sheets of juice in... along with a new vanilla-roma magic tree ..... and boom!! i hadnt even hit 3rd gear and was nowhere near thrashing it ... and the top pully literally fell apart!!!!!... completely ruined!!!... please bare that in mind mr original poster.... 3 months down the line and im still bitter as f*ck... pennyless .. and a bus wanker no less.....

A cam belt kit is the belt, tensioner and idler. Cam pullies are not included. I suspect you had the 3 bolt type which were known to have issues.

ok cool .. to be fair im not 100% sure on the bolt configuration.... jus mearly trying to warn the o,p of possible disasters... shit like this can pottentially cause a lot of trouble around the dinner table in the homestead like.... jus trying to save m8ee from that .... if ya hear wot im saying ...

+ the bastard VAT. Probably the most un-rewarding way to spend £350 on your motor, at least if you're paying for some thing to be fixed you feel like you're getting something lol

He used to be a Peugeot master tech and now works on planes i think. I know several people who have used him who say he is very good.

I'm not saying he isn't, but you can understand how not having work done with a registered business is risky should something go wrong (no matter how remote).

I would always rather take my car to a bloke in a shed who has nothing but solid experience on that engine, than a "proper garage".

Shed wins everytime.

If you're not comfortable with doing it with Deepak (the guy I linked), which to be honest I can understand, then I had mine done by Storm Autos (peugeot specialist) in Witney, Oxfordshire for 280 not including the waterpump, and they were very good, assured me they'd pin the engine with the proper locking pins etc.
However if you're 200 miles from London Oxfordshire's probably not all that close either.

I've had a quote of around £250, Garage by where I live and I thought that was expensive! got around 10k left before mine needs a change though Big Grin

don't get me wrong, if i had a garage and it hadn't been the middle of winter when my aux belt shredded and got caught up in the cam belt, i'd have done it myself . .lol

Not that far off if your VAT registered which add's £60.00 ish, I always use Peugeot kit's as It provides cover under there Trade club if anything fails, this does exclude the cam and lower pulleys thou which unless changed now can slip and if unlucky can snap the belt too,

But I have known the later Cam pulley's to fail as well
