I needed a diesel run around...... Found one!
#1
Well.. Sold the van today, so will be jumping into the 306 for a bit as a daily.

as some of you may know had to have a bit of a scale back at the moment and looking for something a bit more economical, probably a diesel especially clocking up the miles.

Anyone got any suggestions or know of anything? seen a nice VW Bora and a BMW 320D both doing 60mpg extra urban, double the van!!
Now only a has been!!

306 1.9 DT with a Bosch

That's an easy 50mpg on fuel that is currently £1 a litre Max :-)

106 XND. Reliable to the max, 70 MPG with a few cheap mods and no temptation to tune it.

I also disagree when a car is as slow as a 106 nad there is massive temptation to try and make it faster Wink

Hdi estate. A good one can be picked up for peanuts and with a stage
1, they're super economical.

320d is a good shout, e46 i assume? I like the new focuses (focii? lol), but guessing they might be a bit out of budget...?

Problem with a 306 HDi is finding one that's been well looked after. :S

What sort of budget are you looking at if you don't mind me asking? I'm guessing 3-4k if you're looking at a 320d?

Yeah around about the 4k mark, e46 is the shape that fills the criteria

Like you say poodle it's finding a nice one that will be reliable

Golf TDi's are just quite overpriced IMO

When I get to the end of everything I'm aiming for the E90 shape 3 series sport

If any of you fancy a track prepped 306 that will be available in the very near future!

I disagree very much!

Also, I'm running veg, hooning like a bastard on the way home from work, and still getting 130 miles to about 10l of veg.

And my car only owes me 7-800 quid to date

Costco is pointless due to the membership fee that you are paying every month.

You do not pay a membership fee at Costco every month. Well if you are, someone at the counter is taking you for a right mug and pocketing your cash! lol

Vectra CDTi 150..... They're worth about as much as a 306 HDi, just as unreliable, only do around 50mpg like the HDi, but do have more spec.........and are fecking massive lol, 2.4metre lentghs of wood fit in there no issue.....in the HDi hatch they were wedged between the windscreen and bootlid. lol

But seriously, neither of the above. As has already been said, decent HDi's are very few and far now, most won't be that economical either as they have sensor issues, boost leaks and faulty EGRs, I've owned 3 now that wouldn't get above 50mpg....shite considering the lack of power, even at stage 1.

Golfs are overpriced as you say, shame because there's so many about that its easier to find a looked after one (for most people haha). The Mondeo is a good shout though, although they do have a DPF I believe (unlike the MK4 Golf, Vectra or 306 HDi) but with £4k to play with I'd want something better than a boring family car tbh....
