overtemp

hey everyone, im going to ramble a bit so have a read ... comments will be good.
bought an xsi two days ago and normal diving temp is at 85/90 then in stop/start traffic goes up to one line before red. doesnt get hotter but then fans not working at all. (been out and checked) put heater to max with fan on full and had no efect at all on engine temp just me getting very hot. so after reading threads on here plan of attack will be remove wiring on temp sender with two yellow wires and see if fans come on, if yes then faulty sender? if no then fit manual over ride switch?
thanks

If you unplug that brown plug and the fans dont come on full speed after a few seconds, its either the fans at fault (need to remove and test with a direct 12v to the fans) Or a bad fan controller (otherwise known as a bitron unit - Can be picked up for about 20 quid on ebay)

thanks guys, it was the brown connector/ sensor. fitted a new one and now have fans working. almost stripped the thread of thermo housing when screwing new one in!
