Gearbox crunching?

My bro has a problem. His car started to crunch when going into 4th. He has a quick shift so though it could be that. So he for a hdi box and fitted that now that crunches in 3Rd. So he changed it to a stock gear stick and links and it's still doing it. Is it just Shit luck and 2 fooked gearboxes

Yeah I'd imagine its just bad luck. How bad does it crunch? I used to have a box that crunched slightly into 4th unless you were very careful with the change. Never got any worse in the 15k I used it though.

same, it doesnt do it if you very slowly go into gear, worse on the downshift.
