Thats a shame mate. I spent well over a year looking for a new job and i failed several interviews. My one for this job, i just walked in with the attitude of not giving a shit if i got the job or not. Think that made a big difference as before i was trying too hard i think.

Niall this is what ive been doing, trying too hard when i just need to relax and be myself. Ive got an interview tomorrow, its tech support but involves SQL and updating HTML - stuff i know about vaguely but i have no experience in and my CV has no sign of it however they still want to interview me, so im going in like i dont give a shit as it looks like im not suitable for the job anyway! But i think they'd train me..

Cully - hard luck mate, you seem like a great guy and im sure something will come off for you in the near future

That is harsh mate! You could maybe think about doing a basic AC course like we do at our training school. I think they cost a few £100 and are maybe something worth getting under your belt! Smile

thanks guys
its not like i dont have a job funny thing is the guy said id walk the job no problems i know that as im doing most of it already!
he said my inter personal skills let me down he put it down to doing the same job in the same enviroment for 20+ years
so i put it down to the twats i have to deal with

personaly i didnt have a problem with the questions or work i beleive its my people skills that let me down, so that is down to a failing on my current managment in failing to bring the best out of me
so in the future i will be pushing that point as an issue i want adressing/training with as my work expects me to have a good repor with the customers

im not looking at this as a failiure but as a gatway to improvment

good man.

I agree with your statements, skills in dealing with people are fine, your a top bloke. I can understand interpersonal skills being an issue if you've done the same thing for 20+ years.

I'm a grumpy bastard about everything to do with my work if i have to tell anyone more than once (ed doe can vouch) and i've only been doing it 7 years.

thats a dirty bum-hole cully !!!

Thats a good point raised about the interpersonal skills cully, i guess your current job doesnt have a day-2-day use for them and raport building with various customer types but request this training through work will help you progress within your career Smile

again gutted for you mate !!!!

Totally agree with the bit about training and people skills, If you keep getting training courses and new skills that you want you'll be happier at work not to mention better at your job and more skilled so they will get more out of you.

People skills come easily as long as your a fairly easy going and friendly person, which you definitely seemed to be when I met you. I had trouble with that, now I manage a team of 12 people, didn't take much really...

Had my interview.. Went REALLY well, such a laid back atmosphere for an interview, non of this 'tell me your greatest achievement.... whats your weaknesses....' etc etc

It was with the head of IT and their senior engineer. Both appear nice approachable chaps, they only asked me what i know about the company - id researched them well - seemed impressed, they seemed to ramble on a lot about their duties and what my role would entail. Appears to be a varied role, diagnosing any faulty computer/printer/scanner, basically any gadget that has an issue i'll diagnose then take the relevant action. They will also train me as far as SQL, HTML and any other programming language they will need me to use, not direct training as such but more on the job, learning as i go along, an i'd probably just read a book at home as things digest in my head better that way. They seemed more interested in my hardware technical ability as it looks like dealing with them issues takes time away from them dealing with software/programming/server maintenance types of jobs that are critical to them as they are a web based company

They were really impressed with me..... not sure why as i wasn't arsed at all but it meant i managed to get my points across; explain to them my ethos and general work ethics, what i'll be bringing to the company without my head getting too big, i also did well complimenting their set-up without trying to brown nose them too - i think!

As always, they have another 2 folk to interview - i was in a shortlist of 3 people, so they will be in touch if they want to take me on, fingers crossed now!!
