Personally, I love the original total 7000 (think that's the one)
The car runs noticeably different on it, it's fairly cheap and Peugeot must of recommended it for a reason!

Ahh yes.. Yeah, I've heard its not too badly priced even from pug directly! Although i have a friend who works for pug.. Wonder if he can get me some discount..

Edit: I've found my current oil gets quite hot quite quickly when on a rag.. like 125 degrees

Well mine will sit at 90 all day long unless I really rag it in which case it may creep upto about 100. Highest its ever been was 130 but in all fairness, I did spend a few minutes off the clock......I love living in a private road Big Grin

Am I missing something? If you mean off the speedo clock, how the f*ck did you get there in your road? It's tiny!

I'm using Valvoline High Mileage 10W40, but here is a tropical country. The oil is good, helped keep in 90 car, but I do not know what viscosity recommend.

Gulf Competition 10W40 - perfect for what a GTi needs, good detergents, fully ester synthetic, none of this "Fully Synthetic but actually made from mineral base stocks" crap...

I can't fault it...

And in honesty, changing your oil isn't going to change what it's specific heat is... I.e. how much energy it takes to increase the temperature a given amount... That's relatively uniform across most oils...

GTI6s do, when tuned have a bit of a reputation for eating big end bearings, so I would always use the best oil possible, the Total 7000/9000 I don't think is adequate really, for a STOCK engine used in a STOCK manner - fine, it'll do everything you need it to, but in extremes, it won't hold up as well as other oils which are a fairly similar price.
