WVO Self Filtering Guide?

Anyone know of any decent FAQ's and guides to start filtering my own oil?

Also anyone have any idea of initial cost to setup?

Been offered a consistent 20L a week (sometimes 40L) which would be more then enough for me.

Any help much appreciated!

Let it sit in tubs to settle preferably somewhere cold.

Give it a couple of weeks and scoop the fat off the top

then hang 3 progressively finer filter socks (ebay) above each other and above a large drum, pour it in the top and wait.






Personally I think its more hassle than its worth unless your getting it for free as its only about 90ppl fresh

Mmm, well it would be 20-40L a week free.

After you've paid your initial costs surely it would work out a lot cheaper the £0.90 - £1.00 a litre?

IIRC the filters will need replacing periodically.

If its free then go for it IMO

Just remember if its got any animal fat content (from frying sausages or whatever) then it will be a right PITA in winter as animal fat is solid at room temperature.

It's from a cafe at a car boot I've worked at for years.

They cook egg and mostly sausages in it..

Also, I'd be given it straight after its been drained (after I finish work).

The filters are cheap enough on ebay, search filterbagman I think. I've got the large ones and there a good job. When they block I just turn them inside out and squeeze them clean, then rinse in petrol and they're good to go again. You can also throw them in the washing machine to clean them really well. I personally find it hateful doing wee bits at a time because you really need to clean them before leaving them about, I generally build it up and then do a big batch in one go.
