Even if you leave it boosting standard it makes a huge difference to throttle response and top end power as it stops the wastegate creeping open. Fitting a MBC is the difference between modifying and optomising

Hmmm, been told by a few people i've got blue smoke on lift-off... Talked to a couple of people and the current theory is worn valve guides, any thoughts or opinions?
11-04-2012, 05:32 PM
Valve stem oil seals or piston rings. I really wouldn't worry about it though, they go on like that for ages and just burn a little bit of oil, hence the blue smoke. As it's on lift-off, it's most likely valve stems...

Cheers Liam, duly ignoring it!
![]() Bigger issue has developed, has decided to start cutting out on me. Dont fecking believe it, third car in a row to do this. ![]() Had a look when i got t work this morning and the pump is dripping fuel. I guess its probably not worth trying to fix the pump for now, especially as i need it sorted quick. Anyone gt any solutions or possible quick-fixes besides getting a new pump? Or even better, has anyone got a known-good bosch pump they want to sell me?
27-04-2012, 06:51 AM
I have 2 lucas pumps if you get stuck mate
![]() I'm already looking for a bosch pump or 2 so if I come across any more I will let you know!

Ok cheers Mark.
Going to try and get a better look at where its leaking from later, seems to be back of the pump so chances are i wont be able to see much. Had a look at that thread by cj derv but looks to be completely different to my problem. Will raise the idle later and see if that stops it cutting out when i stop in traffic.

Wheres it leaking mate? Could just try replacing the seal? seal kits are £16 delivered off ebay.
If not a bit of black silicone might stop it. Oh and I has a 406 bosch (early non ECU) here but it might be a little dead. Oh and an astra bosch and a 524tds bosch. Nice collection hey.

Dum-Dum Wrote:Wheres it leaking mate? Could just try replacing the seal? seal kits are £16 delivered off ebay. Not sure, going to have a good look later. Thanks for the offer, but, "it might be a little dead"...? Erm... you're alright ta lol. If this one's fixable i will rebuild it and sell it on, but i need the issue fixed now. My run to work involves mostly motorway and busy a-roads, so having the car cut out when i stop at lights/roundabouts (ie every bloody mile) is not cool.
28-04-2012, 08:10 PM
Seems the pump is pissing fuel from around the head, so going to be sticking a new seal on to see if that fixes it. Will update with any progress.

Got a lucas pump you can have if you want? Will need all the imob stuff removing to get it to run though as its from a ph2 and coded.

Cheers Chris, but i want a bosch for the veg. Going to see my local diesel specialists later to get a new seal kit.
Discovered why it's cutting out though, don't laugh... For the 5,000 miles i've done in her so far, the red light would first show itself anything up to 120 miles before i fill up and she never showed any sign of running out. Earlier today i ran out while the gauge was still showing 1/4 of a tank, red light hadn't even flickered. ![]()

Hahaha my sentiments exactly. Cut out and refused to start, stuck a can of diesel in and bingo, started right up and ran with no issues.
Unfortunately seems i was wrong though, just filled the tank before work then it happened again on the motorway... Aaarrgh f*cking thing! Hopefully picking up another pump tonight or tomorrow for ï¿¡50, so will see if that sorts it.
30-04-2012, 01:23 PM
Better be a Bosch for £50.....

Show me where i can get a good one for less.

Carrying over info from Dave in another thread; when i put some diesel in yesterday, i got what looked like smoke coming out of the filler neck. What the hell's that about? Sure my fuel tank shouldn't be smoking... :?
Could this be something to do with what's being recirculated round the fuel system with the excess pump fuel, if you see what i mean?
03-05-2012, 07:47 AM
Will be attempting to put a new seal in the head of the pump this morning... Never even opened one before, so if anyone who know's their pumps is in the area and feels like lending a hand, please, please get in contact lol. :?
03-05-2012, 07:52 PM
I know how but have never done one without breaking something. stevieg is good at them.
05-05-2012, 06:32 AM
Car's refused to start full stop this morning, useless lady garden. Will be pulling the fuel system apart top to bottom to find the problem and will update, can't afford to be without a car atm.
![]() EDIT: If someone who's coming down later can bring an XUD filter housing o-ring with them that'd be amazing - the one that goes between the housing and heat exchanger.
04-06-2012, 05:14 PM
This has ground to a halt for various reasons - having yet another cheap car replace it, no time to work on it thanks to new job and having enough chassis rust to make a transit blush.
Today lolsteve came round to help me out with swapping some bits about on the new HDi. She's showing a fair bit of camber on the rear, only to be expected with 160-something-k on the clock. I've got a '6 one to refurbish, so the project doesn't need it's current beam any more, it's got a lot less miles on so should stay good for many thousand miles yet. Naturally this meant that within a couple of hours i was digging a petrol filter out of the garage and bodging it into the zx's fuel system instead of the leak-tastic shite that was in there previously, so the ZX is running and somehow with rather more fuel than previously... ![]()

I can vouch this is a really fun car to be in with plenty of poke and enough smoke to set of a fire alarm, if I had £200 disposible I would buy just for the lolz of giving it a good boot about the place
05-06-2012, 08:58 PM
Hahaha i forgot about the fire alarm incident, that was classic! Going to tweak the turbo when i get a spare moment too, see if i can't blow your hdi out of the water.
05-06-2012, 10:05 PM
Have to test against stage 2 then if you're going turbo modding, its only fair
