I know of two cars that have these round me, both suffered from them moving occasionally on heavy changes, was sorted up changing the grub screw type and dimpling the shaft slightly with an angle drill once they'd found a position they where happy with.

I had similar on my AX for ages and it was fine .... until it snapped the ball off. I replaced it with a compbrake type (also available for the 306) that replaces the pivot assembly under the gear knob and found that to much better, theyre adjustable too

Hated the compbrake one. Worst modification I've ever bought.
Better off just changing to rose joints and making sure the engine mounts are good

I'd do as adam said, metal jointed linkages or rose joints and fresh bushes on the subframe, the throw isnt bad on a standard system with that fixed, make it too short and you can beat the synchros and wear them out.
or a satchshift.

Thanks for clearing that up Welshpug, just a bit too long for my preference from 1st to 2nd, which can get a bit tiring and annoying around town! Engine mounts all fine.
