106 Track Toy

Just got myself a 106 XS 1.6 8v to turn into a track toy it already has a pugsport exhaust system (sounds amazing) and an induction kit. So first step will be to strip it and have some fun with it then think about engine mods after I have a few track days in it.

Sounds like its going to be good fun. For me a 106 has to have the arches on. Cant stand them otherwise :/

I love a flat arch, more sleeperesque!

You need to cut the arches to fit a gti kit, don't bother, keep it sleeperish and concentrate on making it track worthy, stick on arches won't make any difference on track!

Fair point guys I wanna keep the 8v till it goes bang so going to concentrate on brakes and suspension to get a great handling car then walk a 16v in and chase some power

HDi/GTi6 brakes would be a cheap upgrade no? 247mm discs as stock on these iirc

Yeah I was thinking gti6 brakes upfront not sure if I should keep the drum rear beam or get a disk one

If you're taking it on track drum brakes will get hot pretty quickly.

Disc beam definitely. Unless you're planning on handbrake turns at Maccy Ds... I'd say 266mm brakes from HDi/XSi are probably big enough for a 106 myself!

one lad at our last 306 meet, had a 106 that was 160 bhp and it was practically gutted. The bottom end engine wise had no weight in it at all, was all lightened stuff. I think it had a stage 3 cam in it too and ran on throttle boddies, so it was pretty vicious. He had the softest tyre on so that it could keep the power to the front wheels.
if your brave enough, thin out the car loom too!

That sounds epic I'm going to theottle body it eventually, can do you thin out the loom? What will it help?

Itll help save weight, wire is heavy stuff lol if its just a track toy then vet rid of heater aswell, cut the dash in half and just have the driver side bit lol

Yeah it's a great price will more than likely buy one in January, and I'm on it haha phase 2 of the stripping starts today after work

All my axles are built with cost in mind but with quaility as the top piriority. If you do decide you need one give me a mesaage as they dont hang round for long.

the metro cup lads thin out the loom to save a lot a weight, remove all the add features like central locking, ICE etc, All depends how far you want to go, if its going to be road worthy, you got to watch what you remove.
Radio Iso connector is good for powering up after gauges.

I'm going to remove the radio and all the speakers and going to remove the heating system. I've just removed all the interior apart from the dash going to clean all the floors up and put the seats back in until I get the buckets. I'll post pics tomorrow

why don't you remove the OEM dash and make your self a custom one, with all the gauges, bit a like the caterhams have. That way you can really go to town on what you want, is it going to have tax and test?

I'll look into that and only when I need it, I'll tax it for a month so I can drive it to the track. Then cancel the tax when I get home

If its a proper track slag then tbh id get a trailer.. That way if you end up smashing it your not stuck on the side of the track
