Engine running temperature

What should it be on the XUD ? Even in the hot weather back in July mine only briefly touched 85 when sitting in traffic, most of the time it sits at 70.
Is that a bit cool, and what would be the cause - thermostat stick open ?

Thermostat is almost staring you in the face when you open the bonnet
 Plus....Haynes Manuals are a pet hate of mine. Thats just imo min Wishes for more power...
need to do mine. mine's been way too cool really since i got it. it's a 5 min job, i'll take a photo when i do mine, maybe at weekend

Guess I just need to look up the bleeding procedure to ensure I do that properly.
And I have to admit my Haynes manuals gather more dust than oily fingerprints !

Is the mpg likely to be lower than it should be if it's not running at the right temperature ? I can get 51ish as it is...

When we fitted the new rad/water pump/belts to mine just after I bought it, it took a helluva long time to get up to a high enough temperature for the fans to kick in so we're guessing there's no stat in it. Like yours it sits at 70-75 degrees in normal running and only ventures over 80 in heavy stop-start traffic. Heater's warm but not face-meltingly hot as well. I'm averaging 55mpg mind, but then I'm 49 and drive like a grandad.
