Found out the hard way on the way home from work that when the 205 is showing half full,it's actually empty. 
Thought it was running a bit odd,dropped down to 3 cylinders a couple of times so I pulled over,lifted the bonnet to check for any short circuit sparking and saw nothing.Pulled dizzy cap off and cleaned it,still no better.Tried to nurse it home and it died about 5 miles away.Could tell it was a fuel issue by then and noticed the fuel light was on although the gauge was showing half full. 
Luckily,the bloke whose driveway i had broken down next to turned up and I spoke to him,he laughed and sold me some petrol he had for his lawnmower and I made it to the garage. 
That WILL catch me out again,I'm bad enough with a working gauge,playing fuel light roulette is fun.

Guess your MPG.
Fill tank to brim
Drive x amount of miles then fill up. no need for a gauge :p

As above...I tend to trust miles more than gauges lol.
The gauge on the 106 I had was fine for the bottom quarter....but never got above that no matter how much fuel was in it lol!

That would work,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but.
No speedo=no mileometer.
At least the light comes on,just have to fill up when i see it I suppose.No point replacing the speedo untill I can find some diesel clocks.

Use a sat nav in the meantime?

Fill up on the light mate, easy. maybe carry 5l of fuel just in case

A sharp corner can be the difference between quarter of a tank and empty haha

Well I wont notice the difference in MPG between 1.9 GTI and 1.9 D turbo. Thats got to be a good thing.

Peugeot gauges are rubbish anyway TBH, the 406's varies by 1/4 off a tank depending on what hill I'm parked on

My 205 fuel gauge is horrific! I broke down on a quarter once! Have carried a 5L jerry can in the boot every since.
