Right I decided a while ago after grossly hating them, that I like the look of bonnet raisers. I've read a few bad things about them and a few good things.Basically I'm not going for any performance gain such as 'getting more cool air to the engine', more just for the look. I have a hdi and was wondering the ups and downs of putting bonnet raisers on, any problems and where/which ones to possibly get.

 Thanks guys!

Does make the bonnet look damaged on a 306.
They look OK on cars with square bonnets, like those often fitted to S-Body Nissans and Toyota AE86s. Their purpose is not to cool the engine down whilst moving, as in fact they do the opposite, they can upset the airflow that your bonnet was originally designed to give, increasing under-bonnet temps. The idea is that after or during an event a track car or drift car can be left stationary without the need to raise the bonnet to disperse heat.

Now I'm guessing that doing laps around the local industrial estate probably don't necessitate bonnet lifters.

Disclaimer: The above is not to be taken to heart and is probably a joke, grow up you big girl.

As Chris said, they don't aid cooling when driving as the base of the bonnet is a high pressure area , higher in fact than inside the engine bay. As air moves from areas of high pressure to low pressure, this actually inhibits cooling to the rear of the engine bay.
So on a 306 it's purely being done for looks, and they look ghey.

 Case closed.

I've seen about 2-3 pics of a 306 with bonnet raisers and I can't see how they look 'gay'. Last night I saw this, a bloke on here had an Astor '6 and it looks pretty good

Sorry, don't see how it looks good. Quite the opposite...
But if you like them, do it. Just be aware that the majority of people will just think your bonnet is broken

I think the ph3 bonnets look broke anyway, they don't line up at the top corner of the wing, but lifters would make it even worse. Pointless imo

 Bonnet lifters = ghey.

I think they're more popular on the likes of drift cars as they often sit queuing stationary and there is often no opportunity to do a cool down lap.

Silly drifters. Having said that, you can't drift a saxo so quite why this new fad took off I don't know...

I standby my orignal comment on this, If i can get 16valves, 2 turbos, and a supercharger and 6 speed box, all under the bonnet (and lower ph1 bonnet at that), then i see no need for anyone to raise it!!
 Looks fookin stupid!
