Pugmarshall's Miami 205 TD [pic heavy]
#1
After spending 8 weeks searching for a diesel 205 this turned up, near Liverpool, on eBay.

I took a risk and put an offer of £525 on it and the seller accepted. I originally thought the car was a NAD but when buying insurance I found it was actually a Mardi Gras DT (XUD7T), which was a bonus! At least I wouldn't get bored so quick whilst I was collecting bits for it...

I bought it with 149k on the clock, a couple of months MOT, anthracite 1.9 GTi wheels and in pretty good condition.

The car as I bought it;

First thing I did was give it a service and a good looking over. It had play in the lower steering Universal Joint, dodgy brakes and some fuelling issues (cutting out on roundabouts flol).

The only single problem in ~6k miles of complete thrashing, a snapped a PAS belt;

Fitted a boost gauge, wired from the cigarette lighter. Also used a pod made by Gareth7;

Haven't done the front yet as I'm trying to find one in decent condition.

tidied up the slam Panel:

I basically started hoarding parts and just driving the car for the next few weeks. In this time I'd covered around 6k miles and decided to fit all the bits I had collected and drop the engine out for a 1.9.

The engine I used was bought from Piggy for the grand price of £75. The engine had a recent clutch, cambelt and head gasket and even came with an XUD9 gearbox, which I also used.

After snapping many, many seized bolts and breaking a breaker bar, the engine was free.

Whilst I had the car apart I fitted new strut top bushes and bearings and some -30mm lowering springs;

I also fitted new track rod ends after 10 bottles of WD40 and a shit-ton of heat;

The whole coolant setup was basically an XUD7 setup with an additional bleed screw and removed oil cooler.

After changing the XUD7 oil filter sandwich plate for an XUD9 one (running a Renault Clio oil filter due to space limitations!) due to a severe oil leak, sorting couple of coolant leaks and bleeding the coolant, I took the car for a short test drive...

I then double checked everything, adjusted the tracking and played with the fuel pump a little;

Once I was happy I drove the car the 25 miles home at 3am.

I spent the first few days sorting coolant leaks and ironing out the niggles

Coolant leak due to warped thermostat housing;

Various fuel leaks. New leak off pipes and fire seals solved that;

I called upon Zakk (Ozonehostile) many times due to a poor AUX setup / poorly charging battery;

Spec at this point;

Peugeot 205 Mardi Gras TD:
XUD9TE D8a engine
KKK K14 Turbo
XUD7 coolant system
306 Bosch fuel pump & injectors
Gov & LDA mods
Audi TT Fuel Filter
306 Dturbo gearbox
205 1.6 GTI diff & driveshafts
205 STDT / Dturbo hubs
205 1.9 GTI brakes (vented discs)
205 GTI -30mm lowering springs
309 GTI wishbones
NON-PAS steering rack and column
De-back box pipe

I had a massive amount of fun in this car for the next few weeks... Embarrassed a fair few modern cars and anti-derv idiots!

After going for more and more boost, the turbo finally gave in. I eventually maxed the 9mm pump out and couldn't get the K14 to give any more than 35-36 PSI, this ended in quite a beautiful climax;

[Image: 20130930_163651_zpsf24b42f2.jpg]

after getting my dad to tow me home with his Partner van, I swapped the turbo in 3 hours, pissing rain after work (started at 6pm) and I was out terrorising the VAG fags that same night.

[Image: IMG-20131003-WA0006_zpsa7dbc72b.jpg]

I replaced the turbo for another K14 and, once again, maxed the pump, this time only giving me 32 PSI and 6 days of boost.

[Image: 20130920_191702_zpsa56c9afa.jpg]

After this and a few other problems I decided to take the car off the road and buy something more reliable, therefore the 205 is currently sitting whilst I collect more parts and build another engine for it.

Watch this space!

MASSIVE thanks to ozonehostile / Zakk for never letting me down when I was stranded, use of the unit / tools / estate ect ect - Top guy!

Thanks to;
Joe Rowlands for all of the bargains!
James / Piggy for the super cheap engine and bits!
Lee / spike2002 for the super cheap parts at such short notice!

^^ All top guys!
