I would consider my engine bay to be on the cleaner end of the scale, and its only going to get cleaner. Where would these pieces of shit come from?

Stones and things flick up from wheelarchs / road surface etc, I know its not always possible, but wenever it is, its best to keep them covered...counts for when your working on your car also, so easy to drop a nut or washer down there, and then be left wondering if its gone down between the belt and pulley / the floor etc...better be safer than sorry.
