Wouldn't call a 330d boring, theyr'e plenty quick enough, you'd get a 530d for that money too.
Don't discount a 330i, they will do high 30's and can crack the 40 barrier with care.
the ttids hold their value really well. I was talking about the 2.8 V6. Mine has been completely reliable and now on 177k. the amount you save buying the car could be ploughed back into fuel. Depends how many miles you do as to where the breakeven point is with that.
