Well judging by Pro Steve's statement, I wouldn't try it on my HDi then! The "research" did seem a bit suspect as I noticed a typo on there
The European Driving Cycle isn't too bad in itself per se, it's more the manufacturers have found sneaky ways to exploit the flaws for their own gain. Peugeot state 54mpg for our 306 HDi's, over 100k miles, I have gotten 56mpg! (over 40k was with a remap too but full disclosure - injectors were all replaced for new ones 50k ago)
I'll just use Esso Premium Diesel now and again, apparently the difference is the fuel contains double the amount of detergents and I have noticed an improvement to engine running smoothness atleast. When I bought the car, it was fantastic on fuel, I filled up with some dodgy fuel and my mpg has never been the same since
