Just for future reference for anyone!

Fuel pump continues priming, no Rev gauge, and high idle
It's your fuel pump relay.
Had a quick Google and search of gti6 forum and it threw up this thread http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=65659
Exact same problems as mine, didn't mention the fuel pump prime before as didn't think it was linked
But now it's all sorted. Trip to pug and it cost me £30 with discount.
(They are normally £40 + vat )
