I do have a bit of a trek to work in fairness and I do drive like a pensioner which helps too

And you only have 60bhp iirc which also helps.

Tbh though, I'm amazed by mine atm, 15 miles earlier of town and b road and averaged 64 mpg. :o and that was overtaking the slow pensioners where necessary too.

Really does show how engines have got better in the last 20 years though, from the 45mpg DT through my 60mpg golf to your 70 mpg 1.4 fiesta.
