If you plan to keep the car for a while then it's probably worth doing. If its just a stop gap for a few months I personally wouldn't bother, I am still yet to see a HDi snap a belt through age, the crank pulley will fall apart and take the belt out long before that lol.
It is reasonably to change yourself if you do go for it, buy branded parts from factors/ebay though, don't get ripped off at the dealers for the same parts in an expensive dealer box lol.
As for the steam, its normal tbh.
