I had a diablo covered in lacquer peel at just 9 years old/65k miles lol, I don't see how that could be avoided even with a regular wash but you are right, I'd never have guessed the mileage either!
The front bonnet edges on these do seem to attract chips, and once that happens the water gets in and lifts the rest of the lacquer!
