Ridiculously slow...
It's not...
30mph IMHO is MORE than enough in built up areas... It's just that they've gotten f*cking stupid with making too many places a 30 zone.
It's the whole cry wolf scenario - you piss off everyone with speed limits in silly places - soon as they see a 30 sign they'll think "bah, everyone knows 30 means it's ok to do 40"...
However I've gotta say - I've managed in over 150k of driving now to not get caught for speeding. The solution as a general rule is A. Not to speed and if you do speed B. Don't get caught.
It does 'feel' slow though, but I agree it's more than fast enough if you're gonna be ploughing down children outside a school. It also depends on the area I think, anything under 40 feels slow through this village, because about 80% of people are doing that or more and it feels normal I guess, so it takes a conscious effort to stick to 30 and hold up a huge queue behind you. But 40 through town feels weirdly fast, even on the 40 limit roads! Odd.

I've only done a 3rd of the miles you have (did 15k a year for the first 3 years, but only 6 a year in the last 2! And so far I've not been caught...that just makes me worry more though, the law of averages means that the longer you go without something happening, the more likelihood there is of that happening! It might just be me that thinks like that though.

Speeding isn't about fun though, in fact I doubt most people caught speeding are doing it fun! Driving is about getting from one place to another as efficiently as possible and most of the time theres a 'deadline' for getting wherever you're going as well. So people push the limits a bit to get there that bit quicker. And its surprising how quickly you can get places driving like an arse (speeding/overtaking everything etc), people that say speed doesn't get you there quicker must just drive round town all day.
Also, where is this place you're allowed to have fun in a car? Aside from an expensive track ticket I can't think of anywhere that having fun isn't see as dangerous/without due care etc etc?
