You'd need a big spanner to get enough force on it....but limited space stops that happening, had to use a long breaker bar and extension even with the extractor as it's thread-locked in from the factory. I've got a huge adjustable that would've been ideal but just not enough room to use it.
And yeah it does need to come out, it hits the chassis leg otherwise.
