Because they aren't German is why. Jaguar did make some shitty cars. Take the XJS for example, they rot to pieces and your lucky to buy one now days that you don't have to collect in a bag but realistically, they are much better than most of the german executive market. Prices aren't that expensive if you go to the right places but go to a main dealers and you will feel it (They used to charge £110 a hour labour at the dealers my old man used to work at and that was back in 2003!)

Be glad that XJR isn't a V8, the 90's ones have nikasil liners, which means any fuel other than premium eats the engine entirely. And you can't rebore it!
That 4.0 'charge is the same engine as the Aston DB7.
