I agree with niall, basically if you are wanting to loose weight you have to consume less calories than you burn, so there is no excess available to build anything! but I would definately recommend weight training even if you aren't bodybuilding
Scott you should do some basic core excerises, a good stretching routine and maybe some core lifts like squat and deadlift would massively benefit you. When training for a sport its all bout quality, you don't necessarily need to lift heavy, just do it right to actually strengthen the right areas. You see sooo many noobs come in the gym and try to lift more than me but aren't doing it right as clearly my muscle is more developed and hey I'm lifting 20kg lighter.
