Clean up all your earths bud, that might fix it. To t6he best of my knowledge the dial sweep indicates one of two things - dead battery or bad earth. Also, bad earths will bring up random fault codes, often unrelated to the actual issue.
Incidentally, when my car stopped running the AA bloke was adamant it was a crank sensor issue - two years later she's still running fine on the same crank sensor it had then, so don't take what comes off the diags as gospel.
