Guide: Replacing gear linkage bush

Wow, my bearing was worn:

I am pleased to confirm that this is quite easy to do, even if you do not have the correct tools. I am quite proud of the fact that I was able to think of an inventive way to head up the gear linkage rod to get the desired effect:

To remove the bearing you can lay the rod on the floor (preferably a hard surface) and put a block of wood over the rod that you can hold down with your knee as below:

Once you have the old bearing out you can use the socket smeared with grease and twist it through the hole to make the new bearing tap in easily.
