I thought the whole point for a 'spotted' thread was to find out whom a certain car belonged to; being a community and all, not spotting members which you've invited round

Nope, spotted threads on every other forum are when you spot a member out and about (or someone with a club sticker) and post about it. If not id be posting about 10 threads a day as i see loads of 306's

also car frwiends and BBQ is win and if everyone else can post spotted threads willy nilly then so can I
