At least an XUD does it properly, a HDi you'll have a thousand fault codes, need a new lift pump, need a new FRPS, injectors rattling, immobiliser deicded to forget itself etc etc.
If you can name a rod being bust on an XUD below 140hp in the past year I'll be impressed... It's so uncommon in the grand scheme of things... There's a thread near enough weekly on a HDi not starting..

But once you go over 140.. then you're in rod territory? Once you go there with hdi worst people seem to get is a cut out which is like rod throwing but without the Mario kart oil slick
And yes we may need new lift pumps now and then but it beats a warped head now does it haha
