I've got proper tools now I work for a pug /Citroen garage however before I've found when using an 8mm drain plug socket it gets in the way of the 13mm bolt on the tensioner. I've been known to use a mini pry bar behind it to lever the tensioner over before.
Also worth noting I've seen many a 6 engine destroyed (including my own car when I bought it) by water pump bearing failure or the veins on the back falling off and wedging up.... So get it changed
