having driven a fair few 205s, the 1.6 gti is one of my favorite combos. in the real world the 1.6 is faster than the 1.9, builds up the revs alot faster so quick out of corners one of the best cars to chuck around country lanes late at night ever.
an mi16 conversion would be good as they sound awesome, but be sure to get a proper mi16 engine as their aluminium so even though its a bigger engine than the 1.6 8 valve it only weighs a tiny bit more so you dont lose any of the amazing handling, the later 405 and bx's changed to a cast iron block, more torque but weighed alot more
