Bit of an update; I've fitted my RFS head, cams, pulleys, exhaust manifold, cat, centre pipe and backbox. I'm running the 'teeny' xu7 throttle body, inlet and SL96 dog poo management with a modified xu7 coilpack to fit between the cams.
This is temporary as I wanted to make sure the head I rebuilt was good before forking out on management.
It was noisy when it was fired up until the tappets sorted themselves out.
Its as quiet as a mouse now.
I am surprised it runs as well as it does to be fair, and it proves that as a stop gap the SL96 will run this head/block combination.
I am thinking about using the gti ecu, engine loom, coils, inlet/throttle body coupled with the smaller injectors of the xu7 or xu10j4r. My theory is that the gti mapping is tailored to the gti cam profile based on air consumption and that using a smaller injector would compensate for the smaller air consumption of the 1.8. I know this is not ideal but it may be close enough to be able to remap the marrelli to suit the xu7j4rs.
