Thought i'd update this,
Got car taken to garage (thanks to Arron for telling me of a good one)
The belt had ripped off about 2/3 inches off teeth and bent all 8 valves, luckily the pistons were only a lil bit touched so not worth replacing.
Garage put replacement valves/timing belt/head gasket for £250 , about £200 less than any other garage quoted and £550 less than one place wanted
Safe to say I've won a few brownies with her dad for saving some dollar
