There was no real science in mind with the undertray, there was a bit of a discussion about it on the gti6 forum and it was mentioned that the bumper can act as a bit of a parachute due to the void left by removing the spare wheel. I thought for the cost of the plastic and weight, it was worth giving a go to try and blank it off.
I can't really say i've noticed any real difference since fitting it, and i havent bothered doing any CFD analysis, it's staying on though as it helps keep crap off the battery.
