Sorry to disappoint but of course it will "try to start" with easy start, that's what it's for. It's more easily combustible so it will run even without diesel until none is left in the intake. With diesel present it will just get the head hot enough to keep it combusting the diesel. It sounds like there isn't enough pressure for the injectors if you say they are getting fuel (sure I read that above).
