I'm pretty sure mechanics aren't gonna take time out of thier day to view a car with someone....especially when its an hour round trip to town, plus 15-30mins looking over a car....can't see them doing that tbh.

He could've done...but I'm sure he wants to keep his 100% ebay feedback.
Plus what would a compression tester or sniff tester have done? I reckon it was the waterpump leaking, niether of the above would have been any use anyway.And do you know how much it costs for anRAC check!?
