I've done masses of miles on 100% veg before - when I was driving to university and back, I was doing 1000 miles in one go and mine's never done that... That's the glycerine that's not completely burning and ending up on the back of your car - you can imagine what your pistons are like if that's the back of your car!
Check your injection timing and compression... Remember, veg has a lower cetane rating (how quickly it burns) than dino diesel, it'll probably run FINE on Diesel, but doesn't like veg because there's not enough advance... You say it hunts like hell in the morning also, which would also point to timing...
The best I've found for getting veg off paintwork if you've spilt it down the fuel filler - AutoGlym Engine and Machine cleaner, then use a bit of polish to get the inevitable residue off...
