Its not actually that difficult to get your head around.
Just get a camera, tripod, shutter release cable and go have a play!! That's what Jonny and I did the the night and after a while you figure it all out.
"Then they highlighted the bonnet with a lamp, opened the bonet and highlighted the engine too, brighter light sources show up more on long exposures." - It doesn't work that way round (DON'T HATE ME MARK!!!)
But yeah, just go have a play really
