Dude - if your guy just works with ford and vauxhall just tell him to stick a Cosworth engine in it and be done with it - would be better if you can find the 4x4 running gear to go in as well so start searching the salvage yards.
As far as I'm concerned it's bad enough me even suggesting the above but I used to be a ford enthusiast in my younger days.
A Vauxfail engine in a Pug???? It shouldn't ever happen as vauxhall are just terrible and they haven't built a good engine since the 2.0 16v that used to power the Astra GTE intercontinental ballistic missile which iirc had a 0-60 of 6.9 secs
Only other possible conversion I would suggest for you Honda Accord type R or the earlier civic R lump very reliable engines and very tuneable.

but to b fair iv Neva had probs with any my vaux but i have my fords. Iv Neva had a cossie I wnt 1st sierra rectangle head lights. But would b a fortune I cnt not do stupid things 2 my cars
