Ok i may get backlash from this as i guess it will have been done before (sorry, i'm still quite new) but....If you were to build a 306 to have as your ONLY car. What would you have.

 I'll start.

Bianca 3 door phase 3, no sunroof. Tuned XUD with FMIC and Bosch pump for veg oil. Id be happy with 170 bhp and 55mpg. (not too greedy) and hopefully fairly reliable.
 HDi gearbox
 GTi-6 brakes
Bilstien B6 dampers with Eibach springs. (compromise of comfort and handling)
Pro Race 1.3 wheels in white.
 Half leather interior.

		I think I'd go:
 Bianca ph3 non-sunroof shell
Brand new XUD engine with custom engine cover with soundproofing
Hidden FMIC, Gov modded & LDA Ground 11mm pump, HDI rods. Not sure on turbo, something VNT I imagine. 3" stainless, turbo back straight through with 3" outrolled tip
 Standard gearbox
 GTI6 brakes
 Decent coilovers
Black banded steelies with some stretch
Black masks, smoothed front end, smoothed boot. Light smoke rear tints.
Interior would be OMP suede dished steering wheel
 Full black leather

I'd have a sundance yellow ph3 cabby wearing a dimma kit but with all the panels being remade in carbon fiber (but painted so nobody knew) with full black leather and custom mounted cobra missamo seats and a 2.2HDi 16v lump with a juicy VNT set up and aftermarket ECU fitted by someone who knows what they are doing with a hydraulic clutch and the longest ratioed ML6 box I could find. I'd roll on 17" banded steels or 18" 308 GTi alloys with a 330mm brembo kit underneath.

If I had to anything to mine it would be bosch pump tuned to about 180bhp on coil-overs and bucket seats

Manstain or Silver P3 306, 17" OZ Superleggeras/Ultraleggeras, pretty OEM, Clio 200 Cup Recaros mounted sodding low, not a f*cking lot in the back, maybe a little bit of scaffolding, custom designed pedal box for my size 16s, custom steering wheel and stalk spacers so I fit properly...
Under the hood - a circa 230hp 2.0 16v HDi, my own design inlet and exhaust manifolds, my own design cam covers, serious headwork, uprated valve springs etc, EDC16 swap, CP3 pumped, GTB2060VLKR, BTED4 ML6 with Quaife, set of RS3 370mm brakes, Transporter T5 rear calipers...

I've not thought about this too long or anything.

I would have my throttlebodied 1.8 with a gti6 head in a diablo 3 door non-sunroof shell with carbon fibre bonnet. Interior completely stripped with my buckets and harnesses in. Full cage and carbon fibre door cards.
Thats the somewhat future reality....

dreaming onwards from that would be the 1.8 turbod with forged internals which you cant get for that engine.

Hmm, don't think I could even imagine my ideal 306!
Though it'd have a small turbo petrol (1.2 eTHP maybe?), hydro clutch with cable shift 6 speed box (with 6th purely for epic cruising mpg), adjustable independent rear suspension, bigger brakes all round, loads of driver aids inc ESP/TC etc, loads of spec (auto everything/proper climate/sat nav/one touch window both sides lol), comfier/heated seats, still half leather though don't like full. Colour would be a dark grey with deep pearl flake and definitely 5doors. Id change the front end to something more angular (similar to latest Golf/Polo ish), remove rub strips, use newer style rounded door handles and better shaped mirrors, preferably without the annoying mirror whistle. Oh, and I'd make sure it had arch liners all round and longer door looms!

So basically, not a 306 at all.

If I went for the 1.4 in an old car it would still be cheap tax though, if it was correctly registered as a 1.6 it would be the higher band.
I do admit its better PTW but then the 106 engines are upright so i suppose every engine kg is another kg ahead of the drive shafts.

For me, I'd have my car, as it is now and change nothing.
I've built it as I wanted it, if something cost money, I saved it and paid for it - and for me, it's perfect... if I was being really critical I'd maybe get the carbon bonnet to fit right, and maybe a bit more poke - but not too much. It is a sub 1 tonne FWD hatch afterall.

Spaceframed 306 shell, running a mid engine lambo lump powering the rear wheels. Fully carbon body.
I would list the spec, but i would make myself sad at the fact I will never achieve this.

My diablo Ph.1 gti-6, widearched dimma kit, throttle bodies with pocketed pistons and higher lift/duration cams, standard interior with a few things retrimmed in alcantara & maybe an OMP wheel. White wheels, possibly TD pro race 3s. The standard 306 gti exhaust, but custom-made from high-grade stamped stainless steel by an engineering company, so slightly more resonance and a tiny increase in volume but still very quiet with a sporty tone, and never rusting. Heated seats from a continental/scandinavian 306 or retrofitted with OEM controls & possibly AC put in but maybe not. SP pack spolier, carbon panels and other choice upgrades in terms of suspension, mounts etc. etc. Rain-sensitive wipers retrofitted if a Ph.2/3 windscreen will fit, from a Ph.3 so heat-reflective. Sound-deadened.
Obviously all in perfect condition with full underbody restoration and engine bay repainted etc.

As money is a finite resource, I think I will just do the less expensive upgrades from that list for now.
This post is an artistic work of fiction and falsehood. Only a fool would take anything posted above as fact.

I reckon money no object you'd have alot of composite bits like a full carbon one piece front end. Your just saying the above so you dont feel sad you cant afford more.
