Why is it that when a petrol turbo revs it goes bwarp chu chu chu yano that epic noise i cant make. But a diesel just whistles if we're lucky or maybe sneezes when you load it up? I know some of the vnt diesels make epic noises but not like a petrol.
Im guessing its to do with the throttle butterfly shutting?

You mean compresser stall it's because pervs have a throttle body the turbo compressors the air against it and it has no where to go so it flows back and stalls the compressor wheel creating the noise. Hence why pervs have recirc/bovs

You can make epic compressor stall noises on a diesel but compressor stall is a turbo killer.
Wastage chatter is a myth and is usually compressor stall.

If you run unfiltered onto the turbo ( silly thing to do but sounds good ) they will do it if your going along hard and put ya foot on clutch hard but don't do ya turbo much good

Waste gates don't make any noise at all other than when they open the engine just gets much louder...
It's the throttle plate shutting that causes that noise... It's not a good noise by any means, it's the sound of the compressor flow becoming Un stable and forcing itself ways it doesn't want to go because the compressor is spinning too slowly to support the pressure created and airflow demanded...

As said, compressor spinning too slow for the amount of pressure produced and air demanded. This is the problem with turbos that are very efficient, they move so much air at low engine speeds and spin up so fast, that as soon as the exhaust gas flow slows, it instantly causes it to begin to surge..
The biggest problem lies when those noises happen on the throttle, that's because it's making so much air, even with the exhaust flow, there's no way it'll stay stable, so then starts making horrible noises... A lot of pressure is placed on the compressor shaft when it happens, combined with the exhaust gas spinning the turbine, it's a situation for snapping turbine shafts... It's like the compressor trying to do one thing, and the turbine doing another...

Little older turbos can manage that but they aint moving any more air over 25psi....just making heat

  (21-12-2013, 06:58 PM)Anton Wrote: My 2052 is pretty sweet at 24-26psi
Thats my aim...about 24psi

And do remember the GT2052 and 56 's' are both very efficient and move a lot more air at low psi that a t2 or gt15 would ever provide even at twice the psi
