Presuming a lot of yous are young drivers? I think of it as people pass the test in a small petrol then maybe there second car would be a d turbo. Well thats the way a lot of people do it here. I'm wondering what car you would get next? Whats the natural progression?
Dont get me wrong, i will always have a love for french scrap, i just fancy a change, maybe move up in the world.

I'm thinking 130 bora for a bit of hopefully trouble free driving? Even though they're boring ill probably end up with one. Its sort of an inbetween car im looking for whilst i save for an e39 530d.

What would you buy, not wanting to spend much more than 2k.

From the trends I've seen in here there's a few routes that people go and end up
 306 - Astra - cry - 306
 306 - vectra - moan - 306
 306 - mx5 - drift - 306
 306 - e46 - drift - 306
 306 - a3 - pleased - 306
 306 - golf - moan - 306

So yeah you'll come back to a 306

Personally I've only ever had pugs had a volvo 850 loved it but thirsty! Volvo has actually been the cheapest car to insure iv had. Had I'd got a derv I'd probably still have it. currently now in a berlingo

Bora is stupid expensive for a saloon golf. just buy a golf!
 I went from a 1.6 16v Fiesta to a XR2i to a v6 Mivec FTO to a 1.6 16v Colt GTi, then couple ZetecS' mixed with superbikeness,
then I found derv and boost!

Volvo or Saab! Saabs are dirt cheap now, and the petrol turbos are as tunable as a DT (with poorer MPG natch)

 For me it went

Speak to Carlos or Dan! about owning boras. IIRC their ownership experience hasn't been completely trouble-free, and when VAGs go wrong, they aren't generally a cheap fix...
 I can't really comment as my car progression was CitroenZX - 106 nad - 306 Dturbo - 306 GTi6 - 306GTi6 - Renaultsport Megane R26!

I'd still own another 306 though, but definitely only as a 2nd car/track car. And for me it would definitely be a GTi6. I think in a couple of years I may invest in a shitter to strip and track for lols.

Personally, if I were you I'd be more keen to keep saving for another year rather than spend the 2k on something like a Bora which may end up costing you more, and wont be IMO that great an ownership experience....

So yeah, that's about as much as I can meaningfully add to this thread!

I hate the shape of mk4 golfs to be honest, though i dont mind boras for some reason.

Also I'm only keen on petrols if they're rwd. Which as a student i cant afford to run.

Any love for the E39s? I think they're the ultimate diesel but i need to be spending about 3k on one which i dont ave at the minute.

Obviously going from a super money saving XUD/HDi DT any car is going to seem like a shock to buy/insure/repair/modify/etc.
Might as well go nuts and get a petrol turbo RWD if you ask me!

 Don't bother with N/A, it's old technology.

		306 1.4 Miami - Boring
306 1.4 Meridian - Broken
306 1.4 Meridian - Slow and ate gearboxes
306 1.8 Meridian - Reliable, good looking - thirsty as hell, had to go diesel!
MK4 Golf GT TDI 3 door - Reliable, good on fuel - not enough doors, poor spec list
MK4 Golf GT TDI 5 door - Good car...until I modded it for college project, broke it for parts when cams/lifters and clutch/DMF failed
106 NAD Zest 2 - Cheap as chips, good on fuel, a bugger to fix as everything was rusted and seized - only a stop gap so sold it on for what I paid
Vectra B 2.0 Petrol Auto - Nice leather interior - f*cked waterpump leaking all over the place, took it back a few hours later for a refund
Avensis 1.8 VVti - Not as thirsty as expected, slow, horrible and cheap inside
306 HDi Estate - Borrowed from Rowell, took some getting used to after the Golfs, slow, poor on fuel for the slowness, expensive to tax
306 HDi estate - Bought my own after giving Rowells back so the insurance price didn't rise - didn't like that one either lol
2006 Vectra C CTDI 150 - Pile of shite, broke before I even got it off the driveway, cheap and nasty inside, noisy, poor on fuel, does have decent spec and costs little to insure
306 HDi hatch - Bought as a breaker, been driving it for this week - realised I don't like them after having newer cars lol - its a laugh to rag around for a week, but no chance as a daily

So yeah - if you're anything like me, everything you buy will be shit!

They can be found, patience and dedicated searching is usually involved to find bargains! Just like any car really!

Even just looking over SXOC there is a couple worth a look:
Stage 2 '13 with Tax and test just sold - not tidy but cheap. Quote:I have decided to put my kuro black 200sx s13 up for sale. It's a 1994 with 111k on the clock. The car was t boned but has not been repaired yet. I have still been using the car as a daily driver. The passenger side door doesnt open at the moment but With starting an apprenticeship today I realised I have neither the time or money to sort it out. Also the front hubs need replacing as the bearings have gone and it was cheaper to buy hubs. I have new complete hubs (not fitted) included in the sale. Relatively clean underneath. No rot. Minor surface rust. Other than slightly dented sils (not rotting) Clean for a uk in my opinion.S13 Still for sale.

I have owned the car for 7 and a half years and the reason I am selling it is because I barely drive it now! I’ve owned it since it had 118,000 miles on the clock. Car has never been raced/drifted on track and was bought completely standard. As you can see I’ve only put a few mods on it.

I did a compression test (wet and dry) around 3 months back and the results were fine which I believe means the piston rings and vales are OK. For a car that is 20 years old, it drives and looks great.

 Points to mention

The car smokes very slightly for which I have been told is most likely the oil seals on the turbo. It still holds boost very well and drives OK. It happens so rarely that I hardly ever need to top up the oil. I ensure I warm up / cool down the turbo. I also have another turbo which I will supply with the car – no play in the shaft (T25 standard turbo).

Very rarely the engine runs a little lumpy on idle for a few seconds but usually drives OK after that. Car always starts first time without any struggle. I’ve been told it could be the idle control valve or coil packs which could do with replacing - This is a simple job.

Only last month someone reversed into my front bumper with a toe hook. The bumper did not crack but the paint did slightly. So to prevent it from peeling more, I have put a patch over it as seen in the pics.

Looking for £2195 OVNO. I know these cars are getting rarer by the day and therefore I am in no rush to sell it. There are very few out there left in decent condition and I believe this is one that will still last many, many years!

Alongside these headline items, I have removed and cleaned most of the car at one point or another, including dash (to do clutch pedal), intake and exhaust system. Much of the important pipework and wiring has been replaced with silicone/high grade where needed to keep the car running sweet and safe.

The shell is mostly rust free, it has some previous patches and one rear arch has been treated and sprayed but doesn't look quite perfect.

As for problems, it has one or two but nothing serious at all.
The idle is low when it is cold, as the regulator is stuck shut - so it can be a little lumpy until it warms up, I have the idle set to 850 to compensate.
The exhaust has snapped a bracket as sometimes knocks on the underside of the car, when it stops raining I will weld it back up!

Price is £1500, just as I bought it myself. I would ask more but these never get great money, I will be loosing more than £1500 at this price, but its not about making money! I don't have to sell quick, so the price is only a little wiggly.

If you can show me a clean stage 1/2 s13 I'd be tempted to buy it myself.

Other than slightly dented sils (not rotting) Clean for a uk in my opinion.
The car is mot'd and taxed till November 13

Quote:Some of you may have seen this car for sale about a year and a bit ago, when it was an auto and up in Yorkshire.
I bought it, and since have done quite a bit, and now it is back up for sale for the same price. I have just got a new job, and now have the money to buy a Z32 so the S12 has to go.
